Troubleshooting:

During the installation I noticed that it was failing at status “Installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (64 Bit)

Though we had MS Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable was by default installed with Operating System, however windows ISO image I used to install the OS was quite old. It  didn’t had updated version of MS Visual C++ 2015 which could be a reason for the above error.

When I analyzed vminst.log file which generates during vCenter Installation, I found below inputs.

Solution:

  • Download latest pack of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015.
  • Install the package and retry vCenter Installation.
  • It will fix the issue.

For Me it work by just uninstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable on windows 2016. No need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable , that will be taken care by Vcenter installer.

If this doesnt work for you.
Remove vcredist 2017, in conflicts with the installation of 2015, and causes an installation failure

This worked great! The issue was that Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 was already installed and the vCenter installer could not install Visual C++ 2015 since it was older! Uninstalling C++ 2017 did the trick. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this article. Common issue especially if you’re working in a virtual environment and cloning an existing server or prebuilt template.

For some versions of vCenter 6.0, the package that caused the issue and requires deletion could be C++ 2013. Genereally it will be shown on Add or Remove programs with the same date of the installation failure.
